took place on 7th June 2012

from Ware to Coupvray

Bike for Braille has been successfully completed. The cyclists, Colin Dowling and Steve Rogers, had to contend with some atrocious weather conditions but they didn't let that deter them. They set out each day with cheerfulness, travelling the 347 km to Coupvray led by the support car, with navigators Bob and Ann Owen and Glennis Dowling in the driving seat. The route took us through the beautiful countryside of France, travelling mostly on 'D' roads and occasionally 'N' roads. It was a great experience for all concerned and we are proud of the hard work and effort put in by Colin and Steve both before and during the event - the total raised for this event now stands at £9,500. Check out the short video on the Videos page - filmed by Bob Owen and edited by supporter, Sam Woodwood.

Also, Andrew McQuire has cycled the Vättenrundan a ride around Sweden's second biggest lake. The 300 km ride took place on 15-16 June and went throughout the night taking 14 hours. Again the weather conditions were awful and over 2000 competitors had to drop out because it was so difficult. In spite of this Andrew kept going and completed the course against the odds. Congratulations and well done Andrew.

Bike for Braille is a Braille awareness and fundraising initiative to help support production of our Braille Bibles and in particular Braille Bible portions for our mini-Braille library projects. Louis Braille, the inventor of the Braille system was born in Coupvray, nr Paris, in his family home which is now a museum.

We would like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone who sponsored the event and those who lent us equipment and gave other support. Thanks also to John Persson for the brilliant Bike for Braille logo.
