Braille Bible and other Projects

New Braille Initiatives...

Along with the braille projects that you can read about in this section, i.e. languages, braille booklets, braille bibles and the micro braille unit, we are also promoting the braille projects listed below...

Braille Bible Portions - Mini-Libraries Project...

We have presented Braille Bibles in the form of a mini-braille Bible libraries to several rural house groups - a short video clip can be seen here. The idea is to provide a small amount of braille,10 volumes or so, usually consisting of the four Gospels, Proverbs and Psalms but they can be made up of other Biblical books to suit the needs of each particular group. The groups usually meet in small family homes and the books fit nicely on a window ledge.

Braille Bible Requests...

Most of the requests we receive come through the Bible Societies network and we always direct those wanting braille Bible portions to their nearest Bible Society. For those in urgent need who have not received braille before we can sometimes send a few portions to get them started. Please be aware that we cannot always help as we may not have enough funds at the time.

To continue this work and develop more innovative projects we need more supporters and financial backers. The prospects are endless and we want other UK agencies to be part of this exciting and growing work among marginalised people with visual disability worldwide. Please donate now.

Volunteers

Braille Production: We rely heavily on volunteers from the locality who come into the Press to help us produce braille bibles and books in 55 languages. Compass Braille has relied on a volunteer force since its inception in 1990 and without them the work would not be possible. The processes are not difficult to learn and we can find a job to suit everyone.

Pay us a Visit: If you are interested in volunteering you are more than welcome to come for a visit. You will be under no obligation - it will be nice to show you around and explain what we do.

All in a morning's work!

How our Braille Bibles and books are funded

Our charity has to raise more than half the cost of each Braille Bible. Other funding comes from groups and sponsors who make requests on behalf of people with visual disabilities around the world. We raise funds through donations from Individuals, churches and grant making bodies, without which our work could not continue.

Braille is an extremely important commodity and we endeavour to meet all the requests we receive. The requests are endless but we struggle to respond due to a lack of funding and although we have a loyal support base we need more people to help us if we are to meet every need.

The demand for more Braille in many parts of the world is actually growing and we still have the capacity to increase our production, sadly finance is all that stops us doing more.

We are thankful for all gifts received no matter how large or small. If you would like to help please make a donation today. Thank you.
